4. Discussion

From the data collected, it is clearly shown that most of the teenagers does not where the rubbish will be end up in. This shows that the teenagers are not concern about the effects of the increasing amount of rubbish produced by Singapore as they do not where will it be end up in. Many teenagers also feels that Singapore is reducing quite a lot of rubbish. This matched with the statistics shown in the zerowastesg, which shown that Singaporeans reduced quite a lot of rubbish via recycling etc.

From the graph shown about how rubbish affect Singapore, most of them said that Singapore will have not enough land for the disposal of the rubbish. Singapore is indeed short of land and Singapore needs to find more land or find a new way to dispose the rubbish. In our survey, we also asked if they practice the 3Rs? Most of them answered that they practice it moderately/sometimes. From this, we can conclude that most teenagers does not practice the 3Rs constantly, which is important for reducing rubbish.

When asked whether the 3Rs is affected in reducing rubbish, 76% responded that it is effective. This shows that people should be using the 3Rs when reducing the rubbish as it is effective. We also asked whether their parents put in extra effort in reducing the amount of rubbish they produced. From the responses, most of them say that their parents does not put in extra effort in reducing the rubbish. This shows that they does not care about the amount of rubbish they produce and does not put in effort to reduce it.

We also asked what type of platforms/methods is the most effective in increasing awareness of reducing the amount of rubbish. Most of the responses are Online and Video/Film. From this, we can conclude that the teenagers prefer watching video/film or interacting online to having posters/flyers or volunteering in organisations. One of the question in our survey is to ask whether they put in extra effort in reducing the rubbish. About 41% said no while 53% said yes, and the rest saying sometimes. This shows that only some of that cares about reducing rubbish while the others are not.

For the 2nd last question, we asked them what is the first step in reducing rubbish. Most of them responded that they used the 3Rs to reduce the rubbish. This proves that the 3Rs is indeed effective in reducing the amount of rubbish. For the last question, we asked them whether they have suggestion in reducing rubbish. Most of them responded NIL, while some responded in using the 3Rs.
